The Swedish European Social Fund Council visits ALC

On January 20, the Swedish European Social Fund Council (Swedish ESF Council) visited ALC to learn more about its work in social innovation. The ESF, which reports to the Swedish Ministry of Labor, manages European funds in the country and promotes projects that boost employment, skills development, and social integration.

During the visit, the delegation exchanged experiences and best practices on how social innovation is supported at the local, regional, and national levels, as well as the role of transnational cooperation in this area. The topics discussed were:

  • The work and functions of ALC.
  • How the social innovation ecosystem works in the region.
  • Strategies and support from local and regional policies.
  • Success stories that demonstrate systematic approaches to projects and policies.
  • The role of ALC with the national support structure for social innovation.

In addition, the delegation met with representatives from the Basque Country Region (Office of European Affairs) to learn about projects funded by EaSI. The visit helped to strengthen European cooperation and the exchange of ideas to promote innovative solutions to social challenges.

Erasmus+ Youth Pulse: promoting youth participation and social innovation in Europe

Over the next six months, the Agirre Lehendakaria Center and Young Social Innovators (Northern Ireland) will work together on a project under the Erasmus+ programme, which supports international exchanges and projects in the fields of youth, education, and training.

The Youth Pulse project aims to gain a better understanding of young people’s attitudes and perspectives in Ireland and the Basque Country, laying the groundwork for the creation of a European Union youth opinion panel. This panel will help young people better understand inequalities, assets, and shared values within their communities, while promoting active citizenship and social innovation.

The project foresees three key outcomes:

  1. Mapping – gathering young people’s perspectives and experiences.

  2. Panel design – developing a plan for a European Union youth opinion panel.

  3. Green Paper – drafting a consultation document to strengthen youth participation and active citizenship.

Listening process on the future of Busturialdea-Urdaibai has started!

The listening process on the future of Busturialdea-Urdaibai has started!

The listening process has started by identifying the first key actors and collecting their narratives. We asked these first people to suggest other people to talk to. This is what we call ‘snowball sampling’. This approach allows us to ensure that all voices are heard, from citizens to social, public and private organisations.

The aim is to engage more than 1,000 people over the year 2025, which will allow us to get a broad and diverse view of the different views of the community. During this process, the opinions collected will be analysed in detail to identify patterns and nuances. The transcripts of these opinions will be made available online through our Ktool tool, but we will ensure that the identity of the participants will be kept anonymous at all times, respecting the privacy of each individual participant. In this way, the voices of the community can be heard and shared collectively, without compromising the confidentiality of individuals.

The listening process is composed of 5 main elements:

Mapping of actors: We have already started the work of identifying and connecting with the main agents that are driving sustainable human development in Busturialdea-Urdaibai.

Active listening: We continued to collect narratives through anonymous interviews with more than 1,000 people in the region.

Analysis: Patterns and nuances in participants' opinions will be identified.

Collective interpretation: The collected perceptions will be reinterpreted collaboratively with local actors.

Contributions: All suggestions and inputs from the process will be collected and shared in six-monthly reports.

Your participation is key to building a sustainable future for Busturialdea-Urdaibai!
