Lakua-Arriaga, Getxo, and Galdakao connect their experiences to strengthen community care
On May 14, a workshop was held in the Lakua-Arriaga neighborhood of Vitoria-Gasteiz to share experiences and evaluate social innovation tools in collaboration with the established projects Getxo Zurekin and Galdakao Zeugaz.
An active network to meet everyday challenges
The meeting served to confirm that Lakua-Arriaga has a highly interconnected and collaborative community network, which represents a great opportunity. The use of resources by community-based social services, the neighborhood’s trust in healthcare workers, and the flexibility of street educators are key strengths of the ecosystem.
However, the mapping exercise helped to identify a number of specific challenges:
-Social Services and Health: There is a need for greater visibility and communication tools to promote prevention and reach individuals who fall outside the system.
-Educators and community groups: The challenge lies in encouraging youth participation, giving voice to older adults, and fostering an understanding of cultural diversity—all supported by effective communication that helps bring the neighborhood together.
Organizing and structuring community listening
The various stakeholders agreed that, although they handle a vast amount of information in their day-to-day work, because they lack a way to organize it, they find it difficult to identify who is doing what and how the efforts of these organizations can be coordinated.
“If we’ve managed to do all this by just listening, imagine what we could do with a score,” said one of the participants. In this regard, the ALC methodology and the K-tool digital platform were seen as key tools for structuring the process and making the qualitative leap the neighborhood needs, while acknowledging the effort required to implement them.
